using rsmembership to restrict access to category was created by Franklin Fick

Hi

I wanted to know if there was an url structure to call the all video categories?

i am using rsmembership on my site
(a membership site)
and i need to restrict access to certain video categories based on the membership
this is more complex then guest registered (there are many memberships)

I understand I can create a article with embedded player and gallery module
for each membership and restrict the access to the page
this will work- i am just looking for an easier way for me to do it without creating so many pages

is there an url structure to call the category (I have the categories set up with the player)
so that I can restrict access to a category using a wildcard {*}

example:
index.php?option=com_allvideoshare{*}
this will allow the membership access to all the videos on the site through the all video share component

is there an url structure like:
index.php?option=com_allvideoshare&[category id....){*}
that will let me call the category and restrict it that way?

i have tried making a menu item-
but the url generated by the menu item will not let me do a wildcard because of the structure
this is for the category:
index.php?option=com_allvideoshare&view=category&slg=[name of category]&orderby=default&Itemid=356
and this is the url after clicking a vidoe in the category-
index.php?option=com_allvideoshare&view=video&slg=[name of video]&orderby=default&Itemid=356

and i can not restrict access based on the menu item
(because this will create too many menu items for the user- it is just not practical)

also i have tried restricting a hidden menu item
and using the menu item link in the customer's memeber page
but it will show the gallery and player- but for some reason the player will not load

that is the reason i am thinking - if there is an url structure i can restrict with a wildcard {*}
it will be much easier

thanks for any help in this matter

Kindly try,
index.php?option=com_allvideoshare&view=categories
or
index.php?option=com_allvideoshare&view=category&slg=0

thanks using those urls i can call the category
and set a member to have access to the category

the problem is that then when they click to play a video-
it takes them to a new url structure where the wild card will not gibe them access

for the wildcard to work with that url structure
it would have to be something like this
index.php?option=com_allvideoshare&view=category&slg=0[wildcard starts here]&videoid or whatever to call the video for the category

but the url from the category view is not structured this way
so it doesn't work for what I need to do

i also tried to embed a player module and gallery module on a page
i can give a member the access to the page
but the gallery module is not structured like the category view to show more videos
the show more link on the gallery module
takes the member to a category view that they don't have access too
and the video clicked form the this new category view also opens in a new url structure that I can not limit access to
(unless I set each video url individual to a membership- but with over 500 videos and more coming soon- this is very impractical- especially with multiple membership levels-)

Thank you for any help in the matter

Then the only solution would be customizing the URL structure for videos as you need. But, once this is done you couldn't upgrade to our future versions as you will loose this.

What Joomla! version do you use ? Will ACL from Joomla 2.5 will help you ?

Anyhow, our current version doesn't support ACL. But, we will add it in future.

ACL could possibly work
how soon will you have the ACL integration ?
when will the next update from allvideoshare be available?

or the other possibility is to have the gallery module not open a new url for the "more link"
instead- pull the next set of videos directly into the module
that way if I (or other users) have a player and gallery module embedded on a page
then that page can be access controlled
and visitors that are authorized to that page will have access to all the videos in the gallery module-
and will not have to leave the page to view them

Sorry, Our next version(2.1.0) is coming out in a couple of days with ability to show video ads. Our 2.2.0 version is also already scheduled(support for responsive layouts). So, ACL is not coming in both the nearest releases. So, I would go with the other option to add pagination in gallery module. As you know currently we don't support pagination in gallery module. If you like to hire our developers to add the option, then contact me through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
